To automate PCB testing, we developed a test cabinet for H&amp;F that automatically tests and sorts PCBs.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tAutomated PCB Testing\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>One of the products H&amp;F produces are PCB printed circuit boards. Obviously, all PCBs produced must meet strict quality standards and various inspection and testing methods are used during the production process.<\/p>\n<p>One of the test methods used by H&amp;F Electronics to ensure flawless delivery of printed circuit boards is the pinbed test. This involves placing the circuit board on a pinbed (nail bed), with the pins making contact with various test points to assess the quality of the circuit board. WiredWorkers has developed an automated test setup specifically for this pinbed test.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.wiredworkers.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/elektronica-ontwikkeling-HF-electronics.png\" alt=\"elektronica-ontwikkeling-HF-electronics\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"143\" width=\"318\" title=\"elektronica-ontwikkeling-HF-electronics\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 318px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 318\/143;\" \/>\n<h2>\n\t\tFull trays of approved PCBs\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>To feed the robot, roller conveyors were placed on the side of the test cabinet. Plastic trays containing the PCBs are placed on these. Two trays are also placed in the test cabinet on a mold provided for this purpose. One to place rejected PCBs in, and one that acts as a buffer. Should a PCB be rejected, a PCB is taken from the buffer to ensure that there are always full trays of approved PCBs coming out of the test cabinet. The robot then uses its built-in vision system to see where to grab the PCBs from the tray. Using a vacuum pump, it picks up the PCB and places it in a mold. This serves as a precise orientation for picking up and placing the PCB in the test machine. Then the PCB is placed in the test machine and the robot closes the lid of the test machine. Meanwhile, a new PCB is placed in the mold. If the PCB is approved, it first passes a printer that prints a code on it and then is placed in the designated bin. Again, vision is used to orient where the PCB should be placed in the tray. When a tray is empty, it is picked up and placed over the full tray of approved PCBs. In this way, full trays with approved PCBs are eventually delivered. Employees who previously had to manually place PCBs in test machines now have the opportunity to devote themselves to more impactful tasks. This change not only freed them from the monotonous task of placing test material, but also allowed them to engage in more complex responsibilities, such as analysis.
